LQA tools: how they work?

Our CAT tools are used in combination with a variety of language quality assurance (LQA) functions.

LQA Tools

Typical LQA checks look for items such as:

  • Pieces of the source text that did not get translated
  • Translations of terms that do not match the provided glossary
  • A section of source text and target text being the same length (a clue that something is wrong because a translation is almost always a different length than the original text)
  • Repeated words, spaces or numbers
  • Punctuation, capitalization and spelling errors
  • Problems with use of trademarks

How they benefit you:

Language quality assurance tools can either be the first step in an editing process or it can be used as a closing step. If used before human editing, it helps to create a list of possible errors of various kinds, helping the editor to assess the overall technical readiness of the document. The list of issues can contain false positives, since it is after all a machine review and it then undergoes a human editing. The editor then uses this list as a guide on any focal points in the translation as well as eliminates any false positives caused by the automatic quality check.

If used as a final editing step, after editor and proofreader have done their work, the project benefits from a final sign-off. This eliminates human error on any technical elements of the final product. IdeaText allows no room for errors — which means a pristine document for you.
